The pace and pressure of modern day life can impact our diet, which is a big problem as a poor diet affects how we feel and can even have implications for our long-term health. That's where Indi comes in. New to our nutrition offering, the team behind Indi know that it can be difficult to get the right balance of nutrition in our diets. We caught up with their team to learn more about the brand, and how they are bridging the nutritional gaps of diets today.
WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND INDI SUPPLEMENTS?
Indi was created to fill the nutrition gaps found in Western diets. Indi's name comes from the word 'indigenous', as we harness the best, most well-researched functional ingredients from indigenous sources to support reaching the optimal nutrition in one's daily diet.
No matter how healthy we try to eat, global health data shows that we are still falling short, with deficiencies and chronic diseases prevalent across all of the most-developed nations on earth. This is due to Western diets featuring too many of the wrong kinds of foods: like high levels of meat and processed foods over plants, fruits, funghi, roots and nuts.
And secondly, the sad fact that a plate of vegetables today has a lower nutritional value as the same plate of vegetables 50 years ago. This is due to high-yield monoculture farming and soil degradation impacting the levels of nutrients in our foods.
Indi takes indigenous plants from across the globe that fill these specific gaps naturally, using real ingredients that the body can recognise, absorb and use.
WHAT MAKES INDI SUPPLEMENTS UNIQUE?
Indi takes the guesswork out of finding the right supplements, vitamins or minerals. By using natural wholefood ingredients in effective doses you'll easily find the right product for you and notice the benefits. Whether that's externally with improvements to your hair, skin and nails or internally with better digestion and gut health.
WHAT NUTRIENTS ARE LACKING IN WESTERN DIETS AND HOW DOES INDI ADDRESS THESE?
Over 90% of people are deficient in fibre, one of the cornerstones for good health - supporting a healthy gut, immune system and even directly impacting your mood and mental health. Yet there are very few accessible products out there that help to address this problem.
A study in the Lancet revealed that simply increasing your fibre intake by 8g a day can lower your risk of 'all-cause mortality or dying from any illness later in life by up to 27%’. Seems like something that we should all be doing more to solve right?
This, along with many other common deficiencies including vitamin D, magnesium, calcium and iron to name a few more, are supported through our range of natural supplements. Additional to this are the functional ingredients that enhance your diet, that you typically wouldn't find on your dinner plates - such as Reishi mushroom, Maca and Baobab.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR BUSY PEOPLE TO STAY HEALTHY?
Indi's chief scientist, Dr. Federica Amati PhD ANutr has a few things that she always recommends to keep us as healthy as we can be. Number one always starts with the gut, and she advises that people who are too focused on probiotics need to hold off on purchasing expensive probiotics.
Probiotics can't work effectively without prebiotics - dietary fibre - the food for probiotics to eat and thrive on. So you must get your prebiotics sorted before spending the big bucks on probiotics. Then it's important to have variety; lots of different plant-based foods that are packed full of different phytonutrients, antioxidants and fibres. Always remember, the more colourful the foods the better!
